There were two wonderful surprises affixed to our preview of the Disney Pixar movie Brave last week. (You can read about the movie here Heroine for a Night: Brave http://www.mommylogue.com/2012/06/heroine-for-a-night-brave-3d/). The first was a tie in of the movie Brave to the ”Adventures by Disney“ Scotland excursion. Brilliant on the part of the Disney team members who were sharp enough to connect the two. You can visit Adventures by Disney (http://www.adventuresbydisney.com/brave) to learn all about what the Disney travel experts have prepared for you in bonnie Scotland. Visiting Scotland, and playing golf there, is high on my husband’s bucket list. Top 5 in fact! Being a bigger Disney fan than the rest of us (if that’s possible with daughter who watches Disney travel documentaries for fun) such a match up would rank high on his best trips of all time. Something to consider…
There was one other surprise, though. A gentler and sweeter surprise. La Luna – the “short” which opened the movie. We always looks forward to the Disney Pixar shorts. From For The Birds which was the first I saw as a “mommy”, to Jack-Jack Attack, which I have probably seen 1,000,000 times with the twins and my tween, I love them all.
La Luna was no exception. It was an Italian tale of a boy’s first day working at the family business with his father and his grandfather. Both the father (papa) and the grandfather (il nonno) coach the boy on how best to tackle his responsibilities… and appearance. More often than not they are at comically at odds with each other. But il bambino (the boy) soon finds his own way. And what begins with a surprise, when you learn what the “family business” is, ends with a breathtaking and heartwarming revelation of its true meaning and outcome. You know when you cry at the end of a Disney Pixar short that you are in for a great movie experience.
I won’t tell you more, because I don’t want to spoil it. But make sure to buy your popcorn and drinks early. You don’t want to miss it.
I was not paid or asked to write about the movie Brave, La Luna or Adventures by Disney.
